On March 24, at 12pm, children and families of March For Our Lives rallied on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today.
This was a movement by the children. Tha Brown Urban Mother Partnership joined students from Yonkers Public Schools to stand with them as a collective voice. Protesters urged for a ban on the sale of high capacity gun magazines in the United States and a ban on bump stocks. The universal background checks on all gun sales was a major part of the conversations that the children addressed to the massive crowd.
Students demanded that raising the federal age of gun ownership and possession to 21 be addressed, closing of the gun show loopholes, and cried out for the restoration of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban! The turnout was estimated to be between 1.2 to 2 million people in the United States, making it one of the largest protests in American history.
“This was one of the most emotional rally I ever attended. I was in awe the entire time as well as pleased with the courage of our youth. It was a pleasure being invited and rallying with the students.”
