Tha BUMP Supports Keisha Lance Bottoms

I had the opportunity to attend Keisha Lance Bottoms book signing and book talk in Mt. Vernon on a Sunday evening, alongside members of my sorority and caucus. It was an inspiring experience to be in the same room with someone who has served her city with such dedication. There was a strong sense of admiration in the space, not just for her achievements, but for her self-awareness. What I appreciate about Keisha is recognizing when it was time to pause and reset. That moment, surrounded by community and shared respect, made her story feel even more impactful.

Keisha Lance Bottoms’ new book offers a thoughtful and candid look into the realities of public service, leadership, and personal resilience. Drawing on her time as mayor of Atlanta, she reflects on the weight of decision-making in crisis, the complexities of navigating political expectations, The significance of staying true to one’s values. Her voice throughout the book feels both authoritative and deeply human, reminding readers that leadership is not just about policy, but about people, perspective, and purpose.

What stands out most is her honesty about the challenges she faced while in office. From managing a major city during periods of social unrest to balancing the demands of public life with her responsibilities at home, she doesn’t shy away from the difficult moments. Instead, she uses them as teaching points. Offering insight into what it means to lead with integrity even when the path forward is unclear.

Her experience as a politician is framed not just by accomplishments, but by lessons learned, relationships built, and the courage it takes to step away when the time is right.

Overall, her book is more than a political memoir. It is a reflection on leadership, identity, and the evolving nature of public service. It speaks to aspiring leaders, seasoned professionals, and anyone interested in the personal side of politics. Through her journey, she leaves readers with a powerful reminder: leadership is not defined solely by how long you serve, but by how well you serve plus by knowing when to step forward, and when to step back.

I am excited to add “The Rough Side of the Mountain,” A Memoir by Keisha Lance Bottoms to my collection of authors.
