The United States Department of Education is currently pushing for “Every Student Succeeds Acts” which is engineered by Senator Lamar Alexander and Patty Murray. While the Anti-Bullying campaign still struggles to make a difference. We are currently thirty-five days into the twenty eighteen new year and we already experienced twelve school shootings in the United States. Students are waiting for an answer. Parents are nervous about sending their children to schools. Educators are leaving the educational system because they are not feeling safe. The United States Department of Education is silent in this aspect.
In a small town located across the Tappan Zee Bridge students gathered to discuss the current climate of violence in schools. Jack & Jill of America, Inc. Rockland County & Mid Hudson Chapter Teens decided to march in the streets of Nyack. They want to stand against gun violence. We took time to pull apart the case of Trayvon Martin and decided to call this a “Hoodie March”. The idea today was to bring together children through educational, social and experiences about guns in America. Members of Jack and Jill spoke out giving statistics about gun violence and a cry to get involved in their communities.
