Conversations with Valerie Bell, Mother of Sean Bell

It takes courage to let the media into your life when your child is murdered. Tha Brown Urban Mother Partnership brought Valerie Bell to Mt. Vernon to discuss part of her journey. The owners of Cupcake Cutie Boutique Miesha Stokley and Montika Jones welcomed the Bell family to their establishment of sweets and treats. Valerie Bell is the author of “Just 23: Thoughts From a Mother” starting in 2007”. The mom of Sean Bell penned a book about her son, who was shot 50 times and killed by cops in 2006.

Valerie described the book as poetic moments captured on the final days of her son, who was killed outside a bar by plainclothes officers. Sean Bell was shot in Queens, New York, on November 25, 2006. Sean Bell was killed on the morning before his wedding, and two of his friends, Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman, were severely wounded. The three men were shot a total of 50 times by a team of both plainclothes and undercover New York Police Department officers.

Just 23′ is the age Sean Bell was murdered by cops who came like thieves in the night to steal his life. The book “Just 23’” is available on the website of several online retailers.

With Love
