Rocking Queens Village Day with Families in Training!

United for the 7th year.
What an outstanding day! On August 30, 2025, I had the absolute pleasure of teaming up with Families in Training and our vibrant community for Queens Village Day at Wayanda Park at P.S. 34, and let me tell you, we rocked it out! This was our 7th year, and we honored music extraordinaire Irv Gotti. Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., known professionally as Irv Gotti, was a music producer, record executive, and entrepreneur who died in February 2025 at 54. Born in Hollis, Queens, Gotti started his music career as a DJ in the 1980s before becoming an A&R talent scout for TVT Records in 1995.

The energy was pure joy and unity. Together, Honey gave out free bookbags filled with school supplies to get our children ready to shine this school year.
Annie Turnquest, author of “Annie Goes Camping,” returned with free books and buttons to encourage reading and learning.
“Annie Goes Camping” helps young readers boost their courageous hearts to explore and improve their vocabulary with sophisticated language while enjoying the extraordinary adventures of reading. Annie and her friends will raise little readers’ inquisitive minds about the outdoor world of nature.
Of course, who could forget the fun extras? Live DJs brought the vibes. Bookbags plus school supplies provided by Honey created smiles for the day. Cotton candy, popcorn, and ice cream kept everyone cool and calm. Free food kept us all fueled for the fun!
This was more than just a block party. It was community empowerment on the move. We came together to celebrate, support, and uplift one another. We remembered our organizing roots, marching for Ramarley Graham, and creating spaces for our youth to thrive. This event was another chapter of a long love, resistance, and resilience story.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, volunteered, danced, played, and embraced Annie. We are the community we have been waiting for.
With Love,
Cynthia
